ProLignan flax oil

by Oakmont

WHAT IS IT?

ProLignan Flax Oil is (formerly High Lignan Flax Oil) flax seed oil with 20% lignan containing 12 mg of lignan particulates per tablespoonful. Flax seed oil contains 60% Omega-3 fatty acids and 20% Omega-6 fatty acids, a 3 to 1 ratio. Fish oils are similar but more expensive and more subject to oxidation because they are more highly unsaturated.

1 tablespoonful provides the following:
Alpha-Linolenic Acid (omega 3) 7,140 mg
Cis-Linoeic acid (omega 6) 1,820 mg
Oleic acid (omega 9) 1,890 mg

Other ingredients: Certified organic cold expeller pressed flax seed oil and particulate with rosemary extract, mixed tocopherols (vitamin E), ascorbyl palmitate (vitamin C), and citric acid to protect freshness.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

Flax seeds are the richest source of essential fatty acids (EFA) Linoleic (Omega-6) and Linolenic (Omega-3.) Essential fatty acids cannot be synthesized in the body but must be supplied by the diet. Fatty acids are the building blocks of fats much as amino acids build proteins. Fat is more than the substance that accumulates around the waist. It builds cell membranes and prostaglandins, hormone-like chemical transmitters in the body. Although Linoleic is fairly common in the diet, linolenic is rare. The body needs a proper balance of each EFA to function properly. A healthy diet should provide a ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6 of 1 to 2. In the USA the ratio is more typically about 1 to 20!

Why is this important? Prostaglandins from Omega-3's counteract the prostaglandins from the Omega-6's.  Omega-3 prostaglandins decrease blood pressure, water retention, cholesterol levels, and platelet stickiness. Omega-6 prostaglandins do the opposite. Too much Omega-6 prostaglandins depress the immune system, increase inflammation and Omega-6 fatty acids have been shown in studies to promote cancer and heart disease. The shortage of Omega-3 EFA's could be the most critical deficiency in the American diet.

Moreover, the EFA's in the diet construct cell membranes. Without the right fatty acids in the right ratios, cell membranes are built defectively. Enzymes and other chemicals cannot penetrate the cell and disease results.

EFA's are essential to the electrical distribution and conductivity in the energy production of the body, as well as for cell membrane structures, hormone and prostaglandin production and so on. Deficiency (80% of Americans are deficient) or imbalance of EFA's has been implicated in over 60 diseases! . For example, the incidence of cancer in countries that consume fresh Omega-3 oils is much less than those who don't. In years long ago, fresh pressed flax seed oil was delivered to your doorstep like fresh milk. Cancer and heart disease were much rarer back then. In 1900 only 1 in 7 people died of cardiovascular disease and 1 in 30 died of cancer. Today, inbalances, deficiences or excesses of fats are involved in at least 70% of deaths. The practice of taking fresh essential fatty acids ceased long ago and was replaced by  more marketable hydrogenated vegetable oils like margarine which are not only devoid of electrical energy and nutritional value but are carcinogenic and promote heart disease. Not only that, but synthetic oils are almost indigestible and show up on the body as cellulite. Taking fresh flax seed oil will drive cellulite out of the body and restore high energy levels.

Lignans are almost as important. Flax seeds contain lignans but most formulas leave it out. Lignans are thought to be the cancer preventative substance in high fiber foods. Flax seeds are the richest source, a hundred times greater than wheat germ. Mexican women, who have a diet high in lignans, have much less breast cancer than black or white women. Likewise, it is known that giving laboratory primates cancer is difficult because of the lignan content of their chow. A more concentrated source of lignans is Nutri-Fiber, a flax seed fiber product.

Linolenic acid is converted by most healthy people into EPA and DHA. Some people cannot make this conversion.  Those people should consider Cerebral DHA. It is this converted linolenic acid that provides most of the benefits.

CAUTIONS

None, but the oil must be fresh and cold pressed. It is delicate which is why it is so rare in the diet. Be patient. It takes time to repair the damage done by a bad diet and weeks to months may go by before improvement becomes noticeable.

Shake well.  Settling may occur.   Refrigerate after opening.   Do not use if safety seal is broken or missing.

See Disclaimer.

DOSE

Take 1 to 3 tablespoonfuls daily preferably with a sulfur amino acid as found in low fat cottage cheese.
