Description

What is it?

Tri-Iodine 12.5 mg contains in each capsule Iodine 12,500 mcg (12.5 mg) (as potassium iodide, sodium iodide, and molecular iodine [from kelp])
Other Ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, vegetable capsule, and silicon dioxide. Contains no sugar, salt, soy, yeast, wheat, gluten, dairy products, artificial coloring, artificial flavoring, or preservatives.

According to the manufacturer:

"Iodine is an essential mineral. Although perhaps most widely recognized for its role in the formation of thyroid hormones, many other organs in the body utilize iodine. Breast, uterine, prostate, and ovarian tissues in particular have high iodine requirements.

Studies have indicated that there is even less iodine in the American diet than there was 50 years ago. The median U.S. urinary iodine excretion has fallen from 320 mcg/day in the early 1970s to 145 mcg/day in the early 1990s and as such, some subsets of the population may be at increased risk for moderate iodine deficiency. This reduction is most likely related to changes in dietary choices and increased avoidance of salt (the primary dietary source of supplemental iodine). Additionally, certain toxic minerals compete with iodine. Exposure to greater levels of chlorine, bromine (bromide) and fluoride requires more iodine for ongoing detoxification.
