WHAT IS IT?
Galantamind is Galantamine hydrobromide which is an extract from the Snowdrop plant (Galanthus nivalis.) It is also found in other plants such as the Daffodil and the Spider Lily plant (Lycoris radiata.) Each capsule contains 8 mg or 4 mg of Galantamine, 100 mg of Vitamin B5 as Calcium Pantothenate, and 200 mg of Choline from Choline Dihydrogen Citrate. Inert ingredients are gelatin, silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
Galantamine is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor.
As an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor (AChEl), galantamine competitively blocks the premature, age-related breakdown of the natural neurotransmitter acetylcholine, an essential molecule that supports memory function. Unlike other AChEls, galantamine also enhances nicotinic receptor activity, an effect long known to influence memory and intellectual activity. Galantamine is perhaps the same memory-function enhancer used 3200 years ago by the Greek hero Odysseus, the champion of memory and the enemy of forgetfulness, according to Homer's epic legend.
GalantaMind also contains the nutrients choline and vitamin B5, the precursor and cofactor, respectively, to the body's production of acetylcholine. Thus, the ingredients of GalantaMind help maintain - and possibly restore - proper memory function.
May cause nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, especially at high doses. If this happens, reduce the dose and work up slowly. The protocol is to take 1 capsule each morning with breakfast for the first week. Add a second capsule with lunch thereafter. If desired a third capsule can be taken with dinner after the third week. If undesired effects occur cut back or eliminate all together. Many people do well on one a day.
A lower dose of Galantamine may be needed if used along with antidepressants such as paroxetine (Paxil), fluoxetine (Prozac), amitriptyline (Elavil) or fluvoxamine (Luvox) and other medications such as ketoconazole, quinidine, erythromycin or cimetidine. These medications may slow the elimination of Galantamind from the body. Anticholinergics, such as antihistamines or drugs used for urinary problems, may reverse the effects of Galantamind.
Take1 capsule 3 times daily with meals. See Cautions for more information.
