Huperzine A is an extract of the Chinese club moss Huperzia serrata. In China it is called Qian Ceng Ta and has been used for centuries. Go to the Vinpocetine page for more information about that substance. Each tablet contains Vinpocetine 5mg and Huperzine A 50mcg. Inert ingredients include mannitol, natural cherry flavor and stearic acid.
WHAT DOES IT DO? Huperzine A is a memory and learning enhancing substance. Both ingredients are also found in Get Smart.
Huperzine A is non-toxic even at doses 100 times the therapeutic dose. Some cases of dizziness have emerged and the potential for nausea or excessive salivation is possible. Long term use is thought to potentially raise acetylcholine levels to an unacceptably high level. It is probably better to use this intermittently, as for studying or tests. No more than twice a week for a healthy person is fine. Alzheimer's patients may use it long term with a doctor's supervision. Use caution if on a blood thinning drug or have hemophilia. The usual precautions in pregnant or nursing women apply. See Disclaimer.
DOSE Take one tablet in the morning and/or one in the evening. Bite the tablet to break it. Allow to dissolve, preferably under the tongue.
NHC sells 60 tablet bottles of Vinpocetine Huperzine for $21.00. The suggested retail price is $28.99.
