What is it?
Ginseng III contains 3 varieties of Ginseng. Each capsule contains 550 mg divided among the roots of American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolium,) Chinese Ginseng (Panax schinseng,) Siberian Ginseng (Elutherococcus senticocus,) and it also contains Sage (Salvia officinalis) leaf.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
Ginsengs are adaptogens or what used to be called tonics. They balance the body and enable the body to resist stress. They are also reputed to increase energy and enhance mental and physical performance. Panax ginsengs have been the centerpiece of Chinese medicine for at least 2,000 years where they are thought to increase mental and physical vitality. In fact, the ginsengs are strong sources of life force energy or Chi. (See Tachyon Healing and the Physics of Love for more information.) The ginsengs (and Sage) in this product complement each others actions.
Chinese and American ginsengs contain the same ingredients but in different proportions. Chinese plants are higher in the Rg1 group while American ginsengs are higher in the Rb1 group. Properties of each are as follows:
Rg1
Slight nervous system stimulant.
Raises blood pressure.
Reduces fatigue.
Enhanced mental acuity and intellectual performance.
Anabolic. Stimulates DNA, protein and lipid synthesis.
Rb1
Nervous system depressant. Tranquilizing, anticonvulsant, analgesic.
Lowers blood pressure.
Anti-stress demonstrated by stress-induced ulcer protection.
Antipsychotic.
Weakly anti-inflammatory.
Antipyretic (fever reducer.)
Facilitates movement of small intestine.
Increases cholesterol synthesis in liver.
Increases RNA in rats' liver.
Chinese ginseng has other properties which have not been identified with either fraction:
Immune stimulant.
Stabilizes adrenal glands.
Lowers high blood sugar when too high.
Raises low blood sugar when too low.
Lowers white blood cell count when too high.
Raises white blood cell count when too low.
Does the same for red blood cells.
Antidiuretic effect.
Heals cataracts of the eye.
Has some anti-tumor effects.
Positive effect on male sterility.
Some estrogenic effects.
Taking a combination of Chinese and American ginsengs routinely should result in:
Increased mental acuity, memory and intellectual performance.
Increased cardiovascular tone.
Increased production of DNA.
Increased endurance and less fatigue.
Possible increased life-span from antioxidant effects.
Increased anabolic effects.
Anti-cancer effects.
Better immune system function.
Siberian ginseng (called ci wu ju in China) is also an adaptogen. It has been used by the Russians to stimulate the immune system, increase mental and physical endurance (their athletes take it,) and to combat stress. Chernobyl victims were given Siberian ginseng to combat radiation effects.
Siberian ginseng contains complex polysaccharides that stimulate macrophages in the immune system. It also improves the use of oxygen by exercising muscles.
Sage has been also used for thousands of years. An Arab proverb says "How shall a man die who has sage in his garden?" Sage has always been thought to prolong longevity.
Sage is quite tranquilizing. It contains substances (tanshinones) that affect the same receptors in the brain as benzodiazepine tranquilizers such as Valium. It also enhances the transmission of GABA, acting much like the drug Neurontin. Studies show that it does not produce sedation or muscle relaxation and it is non-addictive.
In Germany, Sage is approved for indigestion and to stop excessive sweating.
CAUTIONS
Ginsengs are not associated with adverse reactions. The "Ginseng Abuse Syndrome" is a myth. The long term use of Sage has not been adequately studied. Ginseng should not be taken with MAO inhibitors, antipsychotic medicines or in addition to hormone replacement therapy.
See Disclaimer.
