WHAT IS IT?
Calcium Pyruvate is the Calcium salt of pyruvic acid, an integral part of the Krebs or citric acid cycle that generates ATP and energy in the cells of the human body. Pyruvate is also found in many of the foods we eat.
In two capsules there is 1000mg (1 gram) of pyruvate and 240mg of calcium.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
Calcium Pyruvate has made a name for itself as a fat loss aid. It inhibits fat production in the body and increases cellular respiration (burning energy) in the mitochondria (power plants) of the cell.
Studies by a Dr. Ronald Stanko on women revealed a 48% greater loss of body fat among those taking pyruvate versus placebo. On a 1000 calorie per day diet those using placebo lost 9.5 pounds of body weight but those on pyruvate lost 13 pounds. Fat loss was similar with those on placebo losing 5.9 pounds versus 8.8 for the pyruvate subjects. The dose used in these studies was quite high at 30 grams per day. Subsequent studies (published and unpublished) have shown that the maximum effect is reached at only 5 grams per day.
Pyruvate can also reduce the amount of fat and weight gain that typically results after going off a low calorie diet and then binging.
One pyruvate user (who may not be typical) had very good results:

Studies also show that this substance can increase
endurance by 20%. It does this by aiding the entrance of glucose into the muscle
where it is burned for energy. This may be of interest to body
builders.
Pyruvate also lowers cholesterol in a high-fat diet, has antioxidant activity and improves cardiac function, according to another researcher.
CAUTIONS
So far, no adverse effects have been noted when used at normal doses. Extremely high doses may cause diarrhea.
