Ginkgo Biloba
by Cardiovascular Research
WHAT IS IT?
Ginkgo Biloba is an herb from the Maidenhair tree, a prehistoric tree long thought to be extinct but now growing on city streets world wide because of its indestructible nature. It contains 120 mg per capsule standardized to 24% flavoglycosides in a base of ginseng. Other inert ingredients are ginseng root, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
The active ingredients in Ginkgo (flavone glycosides and terpene lactone components) have several properties that make them useful for a wide variety of conditions. The glycosides are antioxidants and they inhibit platelet aggregation. The terpenes increase circulation to the brain and other parts of the body, and protect nerve cells. They even regenerate damaged nerve cells.
CAUTIONS
Ginkgo biloba is nearly free of side effects. A small percentage of users report a mild headache that lasts a day or two or a mild upset stomach. There are no known contraindications.
