WHAT IS IT?

Folixor Folic Acid natural 1 mg contains per sublingual tablet: Folinic Acid 1 mg as L-5 Methyl & Formyl-tetra-hydro-folate. Other ingredients include Vitamin B12 100 mcg, Vitamin B-6 10 mg, Vitamin C 20 mg, L-leucine, Dicalcium phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose, xylitol and syloid.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

This folic acid product contains folinic acid, the natural kind found in food. Folinic acid is 10 to 100 times more effective than regular folic acid which is synthetic. It also includes the adjuvant vitamins needed for lowering homocysteine levels and to prevent the masking of vitamin B12 deficiency.

Surveys show that folic acid is the one vitamin with the greatest deficiency in American diets. People only get about 11% of the meager RDA from food.  Ironically, it is not only one of the most important whose deficiency is responsible for birth defects, heart disease, Alzheimer's and many other diseases, but it is the one the government prohibits you from having enough of. The ceiling on folic acid is 800 mcg (0.8 mg.) This product contains more but has FDA approval as an over-the-counter vitamin. Larger dose tablets are available by prescription but it is a rare pharmacy that carries them except as the prescription drug Leucovorin®.

Folic acid can mask symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency and that was the reason for setting the RDA so very low. Subsequent research has shown remarkable benefits for much higher doses but the FDA's ban remains even though it would be easy to add some B12 to the tablet as was done in this product. Given the nature of bureaucracies, don't expect this to change.

Among its many properties, folic acid is involved in the formation of nucleic acids which govern cell growth and reproduction. For a cell to divide properly it has to have folic acid.

CAUTIONS

None. However, it may interfere with anticonvulsant drugs and methotrexate.
