Coenzyme Q10

by ARG, Douglas labs, and PhysioLogics

WHAT IS IT?

Enzymes catalyze chemical reactions. Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10 is the catalyst that allows the body to create Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) which is the fuel that energizes the body. It is particularly abundant in places where high energy is important such as the heart. It is also a strong antioxidant.

NHC sells a variety of CoQ10 products such as Coenzyme Q10 50 mg capsules. Other ingredients include vitamin C 50 mg, cellulose, magnesium stearate.

We have Co-enzyme Q10 in softgels containing 100 mg of CoQ10 along with Vitamin E 100 IU and 2000 IU of vitamin A as beta carotene with rice bran oil, gelatin, and water.

Coenzyme Q-10 QSorb200 mg provides a higher amount of this vital nutrient in a better absorbed form. Other ingredients are rice bran oil, gelatin, glycerin, lecithin, titanium dioxide color, beeswax/soybean oil mixture.

Ultra Coenzyme Q-10, 200 mg is a chewable and emulsified form of this substance. It also contains lecithin 500 mg. Other ingredients are cellulose, fructose, vegetable stearate, and silica.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

CoQ10 production in the body declines with age (much like DHEA, hormones and lots of other vital, youth preserving substances.) It is part of the cell's energy production biochemicals.

CAUTIONS

None. Benefits seem to increase with dose. See also below under "dose."

See Disclaimer.

DOSE

People over 40 years of age should take at least 30 mg a day if they are healthy. Anyone with a serious illness should take 100 mg daily or more. Cancer patients should take 400 mg per day. Once taken it should not be stopped. Patients may improve as long as they take it but the problem can come back once it is discontinued. One woman with lung cancer took CoQ10 and 30 months later was free of any sign of the tumor so she stopped taking the CoQ10. Six days later she died of pulmonary edema.

CoQ10 is better absorbed with Brewer's yeast or in the presence of fats.
