WHAT IS IT? Bromelain-5000 is a formula containing the proteolytic enzyme Bromelain (from pineapple) standardized to 5,000 m.c.u. per mg. Other ingredients are cellulose, gelatin capsule, and vegetable stearate.
WHAT DOES IT DO? Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme (dissolves proteins.) Proteolytic enzymes have many useful properties. It inhibits platelet aggregation, relaxes arterial constriction (which may lower blood pressure,) and promotes the breakdown of fibrinogen. Bromelain is an anti-inflammatory pain reliever. It inhibits prostaglandins that cause inflammation and promotes the formation of anti-inflammatory prostaglandins.
CAUTIONS See Disclaimer. None, though some people have become allergic to it. Very high doses may cause diarrhea. It is compatible with all medicines and nutrient supplements.
DOSE Generally, take 1 capsule 1 to 3 times daily with meals or as directed by a physician. Surgery: 1 capsule twice daily from 3 days before to 7 days after surgery. Dentistry: 1 capsule twice daily from 2 days before to 4 days after dental procedure. Cardiovascular disease: 1 capsule twice daily. Injuries: 1 capsule twice daily. Arthritis: 1 capsule twice daily. May reduce dose later as it's effects manifest. Digestive disease: 1 capsule daily with a meal. In general, the more acute the problem, the faster the result. The more chronic, the slower the result.
