Slippery Elm

WHAT IS IT?


Slippery Elm is the inner bark of the Slippery Elm tree (Ulmus rubra) of eastern North America. Each capsule contains 370 mg of Slippery Elm bark. Other ingredients are gelatin and magnesium stearate.

WHAT DOES IT DO?


This product is a mucilage forming powder that was used by native Americans for everything from sore throat to diarrhea. It soothes inflamed mucous membranes. George Washington and his troops supposedly subsisted on Slippery Elm for days at a time at Valley Forge.

DOSE


Take four capsules three times per day. A tea is made by boiling 1-2 grams (3 to 6 emptied capsules) of the bark in 200 ml of water for ten to fifteen minutes, which is then cooled before drinking; three to four cups a day can be used.
