CAUTIONS
Zinc intake of over 300 mg per day may impair immune function in young people. A dose of 440 mg per day for 30 days improved immune function in elderly people. Still, do not use high dose Zinc for more than a week or two. Long term use of Zinc at more than 100 mg per day can cause impaired immunity, heart problems, and anemia.
Zinc inhibits copper absorption. Copper intake should be increased if tablets are taken for more than a few days. Zinc also competes for absorption with Iron, Calcium and Magnesium..
Taking high dose zinc for extended periods can cause a mineral imbalance.
N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) chelates Zinc and removes it from the body. Long term users of NAC should supplement Zinc.
Zinc can cause stomach upset in some people.
The drug Amiloride prevents Zinc excretion from the body. Consult your physician if taking this drug.
Zinc can interfere with the absorption of penicillamine and antibiotics such as tetracycline, or fluoroquinolone (e.g. ciprofloxacin.)
