WHAT DOES IT DO?
Kudzu (Pueraria lobata) is sometimes called the "vine that ate the south." An imported, invasive weed, it now covers some seven million acres of southern U.S. forest, engulfing everything in its path. The vines themselves can grow a foot a day. Fortunately, it has some uses.
Pueraria contains the isoflavones, Daidzin and puerarin, among others.
Extracts decrease heart rate, and are vasodilatory and antiarrhythmic in animals. It also lowers blood sugar, decreases platelet aggregation, and is an antioxidant. Pueraria improves circulation and relieves muscle spasm. Kudzu or Pueraria root is a traditional Chinese herb which has also been shown to decrease desire for alcohol and is listed for such in the 1985 Chinese Pharmacopeia.
