WHAT IS IT?
Each tablet of Iodoral contains a tablet version of Lugol's solution. It is a combination of iodine with potassium iodide totaling 12.5 mg. Of this 5 mg is iodine and 7.5 mg is iodide as potassium iodide. Other ingredients are micosolle, a silica-based excipient containing a non-ionic surfactant, microcrystalline cellulose, vegetable stearate, and pharmaceutical glaze.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
Iodoral is a high potency iodine/potassium iodide supplement. It supplies in each tablet an amount of iodine equivalent to the daily Japanese intake. According to the theory of orthoiodosupplementation, this larger amount of iodine is needed for maximum health benefits.
CAUTIONS
If pregnant or breast feeding ask a health care professional before use.Iodine in an inorganic form, in appropriate amounts does not usually cause problems but some people develop a sensitivity or allergy to it and it can cause hemmorhages, angioedema, hives, blood problems, lymph node enlargement, metallic taste, acne, etc. Some experts blame this on the release of Bromine stored in the body.
Conventional medicine says that doses greater than 2 mg per day may lead to toxicity (though they admit that some areas of Japan consume as much as 80 mg per day with no problems for most people.) This is disputed by the orthoiodosupplementation doctors. See
Iodine Publications for more information. Organic iodine or iodine drugs such as amiodarone are extremely toxic. Topical iodine used for cuts, etc. should also not be taken internally.
